TTWMN 134: Good Health For The Long Run (Part 2)

Today, we’re talking about how important it is to take care of yourself so you can be available to God for whatever He wants us to do—joining me in this conversation is our regular teacher, author of the book Broken Yet Blessed, Kathi McCarty. Kathi and I have learned a lot thru our own health issues—so what are the things that impair our health, and what can we do about it? Unless you are already struggling with a debilitating disease, general good health doesn’t need to be complicated!

Beloved, I pray you would prosper and be in good health even as your soul prospers. (3 John 2)

Spiritual/mental health

Renew your mind! Know the character of God; He loves you; He is faithful to hear your prayers. You are the temple of the Holy Spirit; He deserves the best temple in which to abide.

Diet

You are what you eat! Some simple things that are really good for your body.

  • Replace carbs (processed foods) with good fats
  • Foods high in good fats (generally, fats that are liquid at room temperature)
    • Avocados, nuts, olive and coconut oil, salmon, tuna & mackerel
  • Foods that are alkaline in nature
    • *fresh fruit, vegetables, roots and tubers, nuts, and legumes (organic if possible)

Some things to avoid that are really awful for your body.

Sugar creates an acidic environment; viruses and bacteria love acid

Saturated and trans fats (fats that are solid at room temperature)

Soda, in ANY of its forms, deep fried food, processed foods

Natural and organic supplements

Best gift you can give yourself is Vit D3

Sleep: Over 70% of Americans are sleep deprived. We need 7 hrs per night

Exercise: even walking 3-4 times per week can reap benefits!
