Over the past month, I think Mike and I have done a pretty good job of laying out a snapshot of what is wrong with kids today and the world in general. With shows like “Losing our Kids”, “(So You) Think You’re So Smart” and “The Attack on Manhood”, I’d go so far as to say we’ve likely scared the heck out of you and maybe caused you to seek the fetal position.
We know from what Jesus said that the world would be just like this in the Last Days… but the one thing I think we’ve failed to do with these shows is the very thing we need to do, that we ALL need to do, which is to encourage each other with practical, doable, biblical steps on how to make sure we provide the absolute best foundation on which our families can not only survive, but actually thrive in these turbulent times. Make no mistake, your kids still have free will to choose which path they will travel, as do we all, but if we don’t lay a good foundation for them, the world will likely devour them.
So today, we’ll explore how to provide the best chance for them, and us, to choose Christ over the World, to choose that narrow path, by laying Family Faith Foundations.
Table Talk Notes
Look in the mirror…
Step One: realize AND confess (to yourself, to God and to your spouse & kids) what you’ve done wrong:
Have you really been living for Christ, or just living with Christ? Click To Tweet
Phil 3:7-11 | But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
Romans 8:5-9 | For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
Matt 6:31-33 | Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Galatians 2:20 | I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Stop rationalizing re: Public Education
Public schools are no longer what they were when we were in school.
God was told to leave the building a long time ago, but no longer is even logic or reason taught, nor the brilliant divinely-inspired foundations of our country with the Creator-given rights we have that government does NOT have—these have not been taught for a while.
With few exceptions, public schools have become “re-education” camps where your child is separated (often by shaming and state-sponsored bullying) from everything you’ve believed or taught them, brainwashed into the group-think du jour, trained to fight in the army of the enemy

Matt 6:19-21 | “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
1 John 2:15-17 | Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
1 Peter 3:3-4 | Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.
Morals & Values:
Do yours change away from the Bible in order to “fit” what is acceptable in society? And then do you rationalize scripture to back up your new beliefs?
Yes, Jesus DID say…
Mark 7:20-23 | And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
Mark 10:6-12 | But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”
…especially smartphones. Is it a “tool” or a “master”?

Gen 27:1-4 | When Isaac was old and his eyes were dim so that he could not see, he called Esau his older son and said to him, “My son”; and he answered, “Here I am.” He said, “Behold, I am old; I do not know the day of my death. Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me, and prepare for me delicious food, such as I love, and bring it to me so that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die.” Isaac was 137—he lived another 43 yrs
Peter & Paul
Phil 3:13-14 | Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Heb 12:1-3 | Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

What they need is unplugged time with you!
Stop rationalizing re: your Church
Is its priority teaching ALL the Bible, or is it trying to be “culturally relevant”? Does your kids’ youth group spend more time on the Word or games? There is no salvation in belonging to a particular denomination or church, and “my family has always gone here” is not a valid reason to stay.
Stop rationalizing re: Politics
—> GOD chooses our leader.
Romans 13:1-2 | Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
John 19:10-11 | So Pilate said to him, “You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?” 11 Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.”
—> No matter who is elected, this country is not our real home.
Hebrews 11:13-15 | These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return.
John 18:36 | Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”
Eph 2:19-22 | So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
No matter who is elected, this country cannot be redeemed—redemption is for people. Click To Tweet
Step Two: Realign your life and your family’s lives according to the ONLY thing that is important: Christ
Assess your “Hours of Influence”—make sure the vast majority is devoted to learning from and spending time with God.
Our purpose is not to be happy, fulfilled, “blessed” or carefree. If you call yourself a Christian, your purpose is to allow the Holy Spirit to conform you into the image of Christ, and to “make disciples”, primarily your kids:
Matt 28:18-20 | And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
Romans 8:28-29 | And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Romans 12:1-2 | I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Philippians 1:3-6 | I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
- Model humility and forgiveness to your kids—admit your mistakes and apologize when necessary.
- Find a Church that teaches the Word of God uncompromisingly
- Do bible studies and devotionals DAILY with your kids
- In age appropriate ways, show your kids how current events fit into scripture—this shows the Word’s authenticity and prepares them for what comes next by training them to operate in faith, not fear of the future
- Get your kids in a good Christian school, or homeschool them.
- Unplug and de-schedule—your kids need time with YOU, not their coach. And get your own nose out of that phone!
- Take your kids on a mission trip to see how the rest of the world lives
- Train your kids to forsake material things, living as simply as possible
1 Peter 5:6-11 | Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
2 Pet 3:10-13 | But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
