TTWMN 235: Epidemic of Ingratitude

With the recent World Cup success of the US Women’s Soccer team, perhaps many of you, like me, were stunned and shocked at the behavior of more than one team member… the disrespect of our country, our President, and of their fellow Americans who elected him.

The word “spoiled” kept coming to mind, but was it really that much worse than what we’ve seen from others these days, especially of that generation? Antifa, which belies its supposed namesake and acts with the most Fascist tactics that ever were…

NFL players who kneeled for the National Anthem, claiming this country which made them instant multi-millionaires to play a game, has continuously enslaved them…

Social and Mainstream Media mass bullying of kids who dare to go against their “norm” by showing Christian values and common courtesy.

It all leads to topic: the epidemic of ingratitude.

TTWMN 234: The Kids Aren’t Alright

We’ve done lots of shows that talk about the younger generation—Mike and I are both Baby Boomers so just about everybody is in that category to us.  Whether it’s their vulnerability, their fragility, their socialist tendencies and feelings of entitlement, their confusion, etc. etc. etc… the one thing we haven’t talked about is their mental condition, which seems to be rapidly deteriorating.

Anxiety and depression are skyrocketing, thoughts of suicide are at an all-time high, especially between the ages of 18 to 25.

Alarmed at the statistics, most authorities, researchers and parents are grasping at straws, jumping to conclusions like “they need more self-esteem” or “they need greater affirmations in their gender choices” to stem the tide, prompting “everybody wins-Participation Trophies” and laws silencing all efforts to question the “choices” of children as young as 4.

How is that working out? The statistics just keep going up, yet everyone just keeps looking at the symptoms, and not the causes…

TTWMN 233: Experiencing Peniel

Today, we’re doing a little bit different kind of show—we’re going in depth into the life of Jacob.  We all know what he did—the lying, the deceiving, the cheating—and many of us may have wondered just why God would have “allowed” him to be “the one” through whom the Messiah would come.  But Jacob wasn’t just ‘allowed’, he was specifically chosen by God to become Israel, who would sire God’s special, chosen people.  I was asked years ago to do a presentation at a women’s retreat on Peniel, the place where Jacob wrestled with God.  What I found in the preparation was the why behind all of Jacob’s behavior, and I found a man who wanted the right things, but being sinful, just like us, he ended up going about it the wrong way. This was the first presentation at that retreat, designed to get the women there to face their own sins—and many, like me, started seeing myself in Jacob’s actions…so let’s dig in to that presentation, called “Peniel”.

TTWMN 232: Rebuilding Babel

Wouldn’t it be great if we could all get along? If there were no more fights between factions over who was more right, no more class struggles between the “haves” and the “have nots”, no more discrimination or judgmentalism on how & where we chose to live or what we chose to believe, no more poverty or hunger as everyone shared what they had with everyone else, and everyone had free education, a living wage and health care? Sounds heavenly, right? Our children are taught from pre-K thru college and graduate school that these things are all rights that every human is entitled to. While some or maybe all of them sound great, every society on this earth that has tried to implement all these things has failed, or is in the process of failing. And we’re not talking just “oh well, that didn’t work”, we’re talking total bankruptcy, massive inflation so people could no longer afford a loaf of bread, entire cultures and ways of life taken away, and millions imprisoned or killed for not keeping in lockstep with the mandated “group think” necessary to maintain such a society. We crave Unity with every fiber of our being, desiring it so much that we fail to ask, “unity with whom, over what?” The whole world is offering all such unity, all the goodies, where all can live in “utopia”—only problem is, they are explicit in this: The God of the Bible can have no place in it. So today’s show is about Globalism, and why Christians should fight it—we’re calling this episode “Rebuilding Babel”.

TTWMN 221: Religious Freedom

If you’re over age 50, you probably remember taking some sort of class, maybe Civics or American History, which taught you about the foundation of this country. You learned about the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, along with the brave and eloquent men who authored and instituted them.

Maybe you even learned about their divine inspiration as they were guided by “The Creator” and “Providence”, supernaturally leading them to establishing the most wise and brilliant government the world has ever seen, and one way beyond the thoughts and inclinations of man. And maybe, if you’re like me, you find yourself today looking at the culture around you, and asking “what happened?”

We, especially committed Christians, are indeed facing an existential threat, one that will one day bring us the persecution of our Brothers and Sisters in China, Pakistan, India, Nigeria, and all places where proclaiming Christ calls for your life. Sure, we’ve already had a very small taste of that in isolated instances, but we all know, we ain’t seen nothin’ yet. So with National Religious Freedom Day coming Wednesday, let’s take a good long look at the topic of religious freedom.

TTWMN 217: Communicating In Newspeak Era

Remember the dystopian George Orwell novel, “1984”? The plot warned of the dangers of a totalitarian society that strips all freedoms from its citizens. The tools it used to control people were constant surveillance, the requirement of complete conformity of thought and even memory, and complete devotion to the unseen leader, “Big Brother”. A new language called “Newspeak” was created to facilitate such control, eliminating the very ability of its people to have independent thought, and continually re-writing history to match the current narrative—for example, in “DoubleThink” the term “blackwhite” was used to indicate the desired outcome of citizens to not only believe black was now white, but also to forget black was ever black. If you’ve tried to listen to national news, read the newspaper, or talk with anyone who disagrees with you politically or theologically recently, maybe your adult kids, your employees, neighbors, or students be they high school or college, you may feel like you’re talking a different language as their definitions and historical context are completely foreign to you…and are filled with so many contradictions they don’t even make sense. Welcome to communication in a newspeak era.

TTWMN 214: Good & Evil (Part 2)

Last week we started a discussion about what IS “Good”, and what is “Evil”… depending on who you ask, the answer can be quite different from person to person. In the last episode we discussed how Evil came into the world (from a biblical perspective just go back to the Fall in the Garden of Eden), and then explored what the World says is “Evil” compared to what God says is Evil, noting that while we may agree on the words used, like Injustice or Judgmentalism, how each of us defines them and our acts in accordance to those definitions will expose where our true allegience lies—with the World, or with God. A lot of our discussion focused on the fight over the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, with arguments centered around his alleged past and his suitability to serve in that capacity. Now that he is officially Justice Kavanaugh, any thought that those arguments and efforts to destroy him would cease are just wishful thinking. So we’re continuing the topics of “Good and Evil” today, by looking at what the World says is “Good”, versus what God says is good.

TTWMN 213: Good & Evil (Part 1)

We’ve talked many times on this show about the rapidly changing morals and values in our society. But what we have witnessed with the recent hearings regarding Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s suitability to be a Supreme Court Justice, takes the phrase “the politics of personal destruction” to a new level, as every aspect of his entire life was analyzed. Unverified accusations, refuted by all named witnesses, of acts supposedly committed in high school and college, were accepted by the opposition as “gospel”…interestingly, all while ignoring obvious AND PROVABLE assaults of women by vaunted members of that party. I don’t know about you, but I frequently feel I’ve awakened into a “bizarro” world, where up is down, right is wrong, and the laws of nature and physics no longer apply. But is that really true, that this is a new development? If we truly believe we Christians are not of this world, but only passing through until our real life in Christ is fully actualized, we could maybe see that it’s been this way all along, and the recent developments are only the promised increasing of evil in the world until Jesus returns… as it was in the days of Noah. So today we’re looking at what qualifies as “Good and Evil”, according to the World, and according to God.

TTWMN 208: Grace Under Fire (Part 2)

Last week, Mike and Nancy began a conversation about how we, as Christians, should react to adversity, whether by our own doing or by what others do to us, as innocent bystanders. So today we’re continuing that discussion, with part two of “Grace Under Fire”. We discussed the first three of the 8 principles: Knowing the Difference between Who You are and What You Do; God Cannot Lie and He knows the Future; and the 3rd for Christians, God Loves you as an Adopted Child through Jesus Christ, and He Cares About Your Happiness and Future.

TTWMN 207: Grace Under Fire (Part 1)

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Jesus promised us that our life as His disciple would be easy, one that never presented problems? Unfortunately, He makes no such promises. In fact we are taught that we will face problems in this life. But God has given us certain eternal principles in His Word that will help us maintain our joy no matter what circumstances life presents to us. And while these principles do not guarantee us we will never have troubles in this life, they do help keep our eyes focused on eternity, and give us the strength to live this life pointing others to the glory and promises of our Lord and Savior. Today’s show is titled “Grace Under Fire”, where Mike and Nancy explore eternal principles from God’s Word that help us navigate life’s challenges, allowing us to live a life full of joy and peace, regardless of our temporary circumstances.

TTWMN 192: In The Fire

Have you ever felt like you were in a pit you would never get out of? Whether it was your health, your finances, your marriage, legal problems…the list is endless of the things that can make us feel helpless and hopeless. Today we seem to be reminded daily of our lack of control over much of what affects us in this life—recent hurricanes, mass shootings and wildfires all threaten our “status quo”, eroding our comfort level and leaving an uneasy feeling in our guts. But for Christians, we should always remember that no matter what happens, no matter our circumstances, we have a constant companion who will never leave us during these trials, One who reminds us, to paraphrase Corrie Ten Boom, that there is no pit that HE is not deeper still. Today we’ll be studying a story out of Daniel, involving three Jewish boys who were snatched from their homes and taken to a foreign land filled with temptations and wickedness. But instead of conforming and taking the easy route there, they held tight to their faith and their God, even when facing death. Today we have teacher and author of the book, “Broken Yet Blessed” Kathi McCarty.
